SD Worx had a contract from Boels Dolmans to take over title sponsorship of the world's number one team through the end of 2024, but despite still having multiple seasons left on their contract, payroll and human resources provider SD Worx has signed on for two more years promised. [SD Worx team manager Erwin Jansen said in a statement, "It is exceptional in the cycling world that we have a contract already confirmed for the next four and a half years. As a cycling team, it is very important that we can work on our future in peace and continuity. [This is] a long-term project. If you want to give top-level talent the opportunity to develop and grow, you need a four-year perspective. We have been number one in women's cycling for six years in a row. Our goal is to continue to be number one in the world for the next four years."
SD Worx, along with its current and former title sponsors, has at times dominated the results table, with few teams matching the overall strength of its strong roster. In recent years, however, several strong teams have emerged to challenge SD Worx in the top races on the calendar. In fact, in the UCI team rankings, Trek-Segafredo is ahead of the Dutch team in the pandemic-stricken 2020 season.
"The competition is intensifying," Janssen said. This team has played a pioneering role in the development of the sport. We have been able to do this thanks to our sponsors Boels, Dolmans Landscaping Group, and SD Worx, who have provided continuity over the past decade.
"This has allowed us to always think one step ahead and stay ahead of innovation in the sporting world. This cooperation with SD Worx until 2026 gives us the same stability and opportunities. In fact, we are looking forward to the next steps"
.
The team said it can look back on a successful spring with 15 podiums and five wins, including Strade Bianche, Tour of Flanders, and Brabants Pile. The team, whose Belgian champion Lotte Kopecky and Dutch rider Demi Vollering have moved into the points lead since Anna van der Breggen's retirement, also now leads the UCI standings by a wide margin over second-place Trek-Segafredo.
SD Worx, which began as a co-sponsor in 2020 and will become the title sponsor in 2021, said it wants to do everything it can to help the team maintain its top ranking position and also promote further expansion of women's cycling. [SD Worx CEO Kobe Verdonck said in a statement, "In recent years, there has been an increased focus on women's cycling in the media and among fans. More competitions are taking place and prize money is on par with men's competitions."
"We link our name to a growing sport where team spirit and diversity are important. Of course, this sponsorship also helps us expand our international brand awareness."
"We are proud to be a sponsor of the men's tournament.
