Scott's time trial bike ridden by Romain Bardet spotted at the Giro d'Italia

Romain Bardet delivered his strongest time trial to date on stage 2 of the Giro d'Italia, finishing 24 seconds ahead of winner Simon Yates. While his performance was certainly noteworthy, the newcomer on Scott's time trial bike managed to stay under the radar.

Hidden behind Mathieu Van Der Pol's bright pink Canyon Speedmax CFR and Yates' ultra-expensive skinsuit, few noticed that the Frenchman was riding Team DSM bike sponsor Scott's as yet unannounced time trial bike There were few.

The bike, which appears to replace the brand's Plasma 5, is the latest in a series of new time trial bikes to hit the mainstream media; BMC unveiled a new speed machine in collaboration with Red Bull Advanced Technologies, and Colnago unveiled a wild-looking new TT1. Colnago unveiled its new TT1, a wild looking bike. [Thymen Arensman also piloted his new bike to an even more impressive top 10 finish, while the rest of the team, including Martijn Tusveld, rode their old Plasma 5s. Scott's existing time trial bike is called the Plasma 5, but the Plasma 6 is also in the lineup and currently exists only as a triathlon-specific bike with integrated hydration and a non-UCI legal fairing. The bikes that Bardet and Tasbert rode differ significantly from both.

Most notably, as shown in the old/new comparison above, the seat tube and seat stay joints have been modified, and the deep cross-sectional triangle that wraps around the rear tire and connects the seat tube and top tube has been replaced by a simpler tube shape. The fork and downtube also had a deeper profile, and the headtube was reshaped to have a horizontal ridge that flowed into the downtube.

Perhaps not surprisingly, the bike is equipped with disc brakes. Both Bardet and Tasveld rode with Shimano's new Dura-Ace R9200 C60 front wheels and Shimano's rear disc wheels, also from Shimano. Both used Vittoria Corsa Speed tires and were set up tubeless.

It is also not surprising that information on the bike's price and availability is currently lacking. We are inquiring with Scott Sports for more information and will update this article with any information we obtain.
