Ineos Grenadiers, which rejuvenated its Classics team this spring and immediately scored big wins, will also renew its Grand Tour leadership group for 2023 and beyond.
The British team is confident that Egan Bernal will be back to his best after a terrible training accident in January, and the Colombian is currently in Europe, hoping to return to racing later in the summer, combining road training with gym work.
As Cycling News first revealed in March, Tom Pidcock has signed a new long-term contract with Ineos Grenadiers through 2027. The Yorkshire rider will likely make his Tour de France debut this summer as he looks to accelerate his Grand Tour career.
According to Cyclingnews, Ineos Grenadiers has already signed 22-year-old Dutch talent Timen Arendsman, who will move from Team DSM in 2023.
He finished second behind Tadei Pogachar in the 2018 Tour de l'Avenir and made his Grand Tour debut with Team DSM in the 2020 Vuelta a España. He finished sixth in this year's Tirreno-Adriatico and third in the Tour de l'Alps, helping Romain Bardet, with whom he trained at altitude in the Giro d'Italia, win the overall.
Ineos Grenadiers has maintained its policy of refusing to respond to reports of a new contract, although a new contract for the next year cannot be announced until after the UCI (International Cycling Union) August 1 deadline.
"We wanted to keep Timen on the team and we did everything we could, but unfortunately it seems he received an offer he couldn't refuse," Team DSM admitted to Cycling News.
Allenman's addition to Ineos Grenadier continues the team's policy of recruiting young talent for the next generation. They signed Magnus Sheffield, Ben Truett, Ben Turner, and Luke Plapp for 2022, while Leo Hayter will likely join his talented brother Ethan for 2023.
Other deals are also possible, with Richard Kalapas agreeing to a new contract or possibly joining a rival Grand Tour team.
According to Cyclingnews, Movistar is one of four teams negotiating with the 2019 Giro d'Italia and Tokyo Olympics road race winner and is favored to sign him. Karapas will likely make a decision about his future after the Giro d'Italia, and a second win would increase the value of his contract despite the fact that he will turn 29 on May 29, when the Corsa Rosa ends in Verona.
Perhaps to help fund the next generation of Grand Tour contracts, Ineos Grenadier has moved Paris-Roubaix winner Dylan van Baarle to 2023.
Flanders Media reports that the 29-year-old Dutch rider will sign a three-year contract with Jumbo Wisma for €2 million per season. Jumbo Visma will fund the deal after easing the financial burden on Tom Dumoulin, who could leave the team in 2023.
There has also been speculation about the future of Adam Yates, Eddie Dunbar, and Dani Martinez, who are all members of the Ineos Grenadiers.
Yates is rumored to be returning to Bike Exchange Jayco along with his twin brother Simon, who is expected to extend his contract with the Australian team soon.
Dunbar was not selected for the Giro d'Italia despite his climbing skills and overall victory at the Settimana Internazionale Coppi e Bartali. He has ties to BikeExchange-Jayco and Jumbo-Visma.
Martinez is rumored to be moving to Movistar with Carapaz as the Spanish team searches for a replacement for Alejandro Valverde. The 26-year-old Martinez finished third in Paris-Nice, won Ituria-Basque, fifth in La Fleche Wallonne, and Liège-Liège Bastogne-Liège, and fourth in Liège-Bastogne-Liège, making him one to watch this spring.
Martinez led Ineos Grenadiers with Adam Yates in the Tour de France, but contrary to reports, he is not on the transfer market and is under contract with Ineos Grenadiers until 2023.
Ineos Grenadiers has a strong roster of Grand Tour riders, but is in a period of change as Bernal recovers from injury and younger riders develop.
Richie Porte will retire after the 2022 season, making the Giro d'Italia his last Grand Tour.
Tao Geoghegan Hart, Pavel Sivakov, Jonathan Castroviejo, Lawrence De Plus, and Filippo Ganna are also under contract until the end of 2023, while Ineos Grenadier must immediately decide on a position with the team beyond next season.
