Marianne Foss returns to the race at Fehnendahl after COVID-19

Marianne Vos will return to the peloton in Friday's Dutch race, the Winnendal-Winnendal Classic Women's.

Vos has not raced since early April, and a positive test for COVID-19 kept her out of racing before Paris-Roubaix. In a rare event in which the experienced 35-year-old cyclist has yet to compete, she will return as a member of the Dutch team Yumbu Visma.

"I'm very interested in racing," she said. 'It will be nice to be able to ride in the Dutch race again. The races are scattered all over the world and this doesn't happen every week anymore." [The whole team is looking forward to Friday. We will definitely attack and try to win."

The 139.9-km event will host a second women's edition after the first took place in 2018 and disappeared from the calendar until this year. The event will feature sections in Greveberg, Pardenfeld, and Amerongse Berg, and will be held on a local lap course.

The 1.1 class Veenendaal-Veenendaal, won by Annemiek van Fruten in 2018, will feature three World Tour teams, Jumbo-Visma, Liv Racing Xstra, and UAE Team ADQ, against women's continental teams and many development teams.

"This race has a good mix of World Tour teams and many Dutch teams," Vos said.

"It also means that the Wijnendaal plays a role in nurturing Dutch talent.

It will also play a role in restarting Voss's road season. She was already behind before competing in COVID-19 and did not return to the front until Strade Bianche in March after a cyclo-cross season in which she won the World Championships.

Vos then finished second in Ghent-Wevelgem and raced the Tour de Flanders in early April; Paris-Roubaix, where she finished second in 2021, was expected to be next on the calendar.

Vos said on the eve of the race: "We've tested a lot of tire pressures, and we're ready as a team."

The team's team is also looking forward to the Tour of Flanders.

However, on the morning of the competition, a crucial target for the rider, she was forced to retire after testing positive for COVID-19. It then took longer than initially expected for her to return to the road.

"When I abandoned Roubaix, I still had no symptoms," Vos said in an interview with Cycling Weekly. 'It was a sore throat and a persistent cold. But it lasted a long time. The moment I got back on the bike, I realized it was really affecting me, especially with regard to my endurance."

Vos will return along with Gyp van den Bos, Ahke Soet, Liyanne Marx, Carline Swinkels, and Tüntje Beekhuis.
