2. The opening 101.8-km stage of the ProTour was a delicate affair, with Parkhotel Valkenburg's Misha Bredewold looking to take a solo sprint win. However, BikeExchange-Jayco boldly chased her down and caught up just short of the finish. At the same time, Manley used her acceleration to pull away from the rest of the field and take the stage win and her first leader's jersey in the six-day Lotto-Thuringian Ladies Tour.
"At the 4km mark, Tenniel [Campbell] and Arianna [Fidanza] went all out and used all their energy just for me.
"And Ruby, who was going to sprint today, decided I was in good shape and gave it her all for me."I owe today's win to my team. They were really great."
This will be Manley's sixth season back in the sport after a two-year hiatus to focus on track racing. She was pivotal in Roseman-Gannon's strong start to the season in Australia, and her relentless power as a domestique helped the new Bike Exchange Jayco beat teams far outnumbering those around them.
However, the roles were reversed in Germany on Tuesday, with Roseman-Gannon jumping into the lead-out role instead.
"We had a clear goal at the start of the day. To get a stage win with Ruby and to get bonus seconds with an eye on GC at the end of the week," said team sport director Andrew Smith.
"Unfortunately there was a crash in the bunch and several riders went down. Ruby wasn't feeling well so they decided to switch roles.
