Shimano GRX Makes Unexpected Update Ahead of Unbound

With Unbound Gravel just a few days away, peak season for new gravel technique product announcements is upon us, and Shimano doesn't know it?

Shimano just announced its first carbon fiber wheelset, the GRX, yesterday, and now a limited edition polished silver gravel loop set known as the GRX Limited.

Originally launched in 2019, Shimano's groupset series for gravel has started to look a bit dated lately. With its road siblings upgraded to 12-speed and semi-wireless, followed by SRAM (Red, Force, and Rival) and Campagnolo's Ekar at 12 and 13 speeds, respectively, we've been hoping for a new version of the Shimano GRX for several months. A simple color change to the existing groupset is not what we were hoping for, but we are not at all disappointed.

As the name suggests, this is a limited edition of "thousands" of units. Especially since a large number have already been passed on to custom bike builders for the bikes to be displayed at Unbound.

For those who are able to find untapped sources of supply, the GRX Limited will be offered in three forms: the first is a 1x11 drop bar option, priced at $1,360.00; the second is a 2x11 drop bar option, priced at $1,360.00; and the third is a 2x11 drop bar option, priced at $1,360.00. The 2x11 group set of drop bars costs $1,465.00. The only flat bar option is 1x11 for $1,015.00.

In addition to the color change, the hydraulic brake calipers have also received a small update compared to the original black groupset. The most notable change is the location of the bleed ports, but there is also a reported increase in pad clearance, as seen on the updated Ultegra and Dura-Ace. Despite this, we eagerly await more significant upgrades to the GRX.
