Days after winning the Giro d'Italia, Jai Hindley visited the Ghisallo Bicycle Museum atop the Madonna del Ghisallo and donated a signed pink jersey to the museum collection.
The Australian, who was vacationing in Como, northern Italy, after his victory in Verona last Sunday, decided to visit the museum (opens in new tab) at the top of the important climb of Il Lombardia.
Hindley paid for his own ticket to enter the museum before museum director Carola Gentilini recognized him for who he was.
"I was so impressed with the wall of pink jerseys that I decided to bring my own," Hindley told Tuttobiciweb (opens in new tab).
The Maria Rosa that Hindley signed at the museum was one of 64 that were displayed under Gilberto Simoni's 2003 Saeco jersey, along with Egan Bernal's 2021 race-winning jersey. Hindley posted a video of himself hanging the pink jersey on his Instagram story on Wednesday.
On Sunday, he took his first career Grand Tour victory in the Giro, beating 2019 champion Richard Carapas by 1:18. The day before that, he defeated the Ecuadorian in the summit finish of Passo Fedaia in the Dolomites, increasing the gap to his main rival to 1:28, who had previously held a three-second lead in the GC.
"I had the experience of two years ago, so I guess that eased my nerves a little bit. But I was still nervous, and I didn't want a repeat of 2020," he said, referring to his second-place finish two years ago.
"It was brutal to be so close to the win and then to lose it on the last day, to be honest. I thought about that day the whole time I was training. It was a really big motivation for me."
