Trek Segafredo signs young talent Tibau Nace until 2024

Trek Segafredo has announced that it has signed Tibau Nace, son of cyclocross legend Sven Nace, to a two-year contract.

The 19-year-old, already a rider on the cyclocross calendar with Baloise Trek Lions, will join the team as a stage-a-year rider for the last few months of this season before turning pro next season on the road with Trek-Segafredo.

Nys dominated the junior-level cyclocross calendar in the 2019-20 season, becoming world, European, and Belgian champion, as well as winning UCI World Cup and Superprestige titles. Last season he stepped up to the U23 ranks, winning three rounds of the X2O Badkamers Trofee and taking bronze medals at the World and European Championships.

On the road, he was U23 European champion last season and has already won the Flèche du Sud stage race this year, which Bradley Wiggins, Geraint Thomas, and Andy Schleck have won in the past.

He combines his road and cyclo-cross campaigns with Trek Segafredo and Trek Baloise Lions, as do women's team riders Lucinda Brand and Shirin Van Unroy.

"I am honored to be a part of Trek-Segafredo. I think it's the right step now to reach the highest level."

"It's always been a dream to compete in the World Tour on the road, and to do it on a Trek bike is even more special. This way I can combine road racing at the highest level with cyclo-cross racing at the highest level at the Baloise Trek Lions.

Luca Guercilena, general manager of Trek-Segafredo, said that Nys was already on the road team's radar due to his connection to the Trek brand and European road titles.

"With Tibau being part of the Trek family, he was already firmly on our up-and-coming radar. His cyclocross results speak for themselves, but his winning the European road title makes him even more interesting for us.

"He has already achieved great results in the road races he has participated in this year. Tibau is keen to move his road racing career forward and we already have good experience with Lucinda and Shirinda in the Baloise Trek, combining two ambitions, road and cyclo-cross. We are very much looking forward to taking him to the next step." [Trek-Segafredo has promising riders such as U23 world champion Filippo Baroncini, former junior world champion Quinn Simmons, Giro d'Italia best young rider Juan Pedro Lopez, as well as Dern Houle and Antonio Tiberi.
