Ewan and Brown to Represent Australia at the 2022 Commonwealth Games

Australia will be competing in the 2022 Birmingham Commonwealth Games in August, led by Caleb Yuan and Grace Brown, in an attempt to recreate the clean sweep of the Gold Coast in the road cycling event.

Ewan will be joined by Michael Matthews, Kayden Groves, Miles Scottson, and Rohan Dennis, with about half of the team likely to head to England immediately after riding the Tour de France. It will also be an even tighter turn for Brown, as the Tour de France Femme ends on July 31. Alexandra Manley, Brody Chapman, Ruby Roseman-Gannon, and Sarah Roy will join Brown in Birmingham.

Along with the mountain bike, track, and paratrack cycling teams, the road contingent has also been announced. [2022 is a big year for Australian cycling and the 34 riders selected for the Australian Commonwealth Games team will no doubt make us proud and inspire the next generation of riders. I know they will dress in their green and gold uniforms with passion and pride in Birmingham."

Of the women's road teams, only Roy has lined up for her country on the road at the Commonwealth Games, and she was part of the road team that won gold at the 2018 Gold Coast Commonwealth Games. Manley has never been part of the Australian road squad, but she did win gold on the track at the last Commonwealth Games.

Brown finished fourth in the individual time trial at the Tokyo Olympics and will be one of the favorites to win the time trial. Dennis is also a silver medalist at the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glassglow. Ewan also raced as part of the road delegation to the Commonwealth Games while Scotson competed in the track events in 2014.

Track offered its first cycling event in Birmingham from Friday, July 29 to Monday, August 1, with the cross-country mountain biking on Wednesday, August 3.

The road time trial took place on Thursday, August 4 from West Park, with a course of 37.4 km for the men and 28.8 km for the women. The road race will take place on Sunday, August 7 at the Warwick Loop, with the women's race consisting of seven laps of a 16 km course and the men's race consisting of 10 laps.
