The UCI has confirmed that four events have been added to the 2023 Women's World Tour calendar. The additions are the UAE Tour, Santos Women's Tour Down Under, Omloop Het Nieuwsblad, and Tour de Suisse, while RideLondon has been provisionally downgraded to a Pro Series.
New to the calendar is the UAE Tour, a four-day stage race held in February alongside the men's race, which is being held from 2019.
Three of the four added events will be stage races, with the Santos Women's Tour Down Under, which was cancelled in 2021 and 2022 due to the pandemic, opening the season in January. The race will be part of a mini-block in Australia, which will host the World Tour Cadel Evans Road Race the following week.
The Omloop het Nieuwsblad, the longevity race that kicks off the Classics, will join the World Tour starting with the 15th edition; the Tour de Suisse, launched in 2021, will also be promoted, expanding to four stages in 2023.
In addition to the addition of races, the calendar will be reshuffled, particularly the Serratigit Challenge by La Vuelta (registered in 2023 as "La Vuelta Femenina"), which will move to May and have seven stages.
There are few details about the expanded and moved races, other than that they are registered in 2023, but they usually fall on the same week that the Ruta del Sol, GP Eibar, and Navarra Women's Classic are held.
There was some discussion about the Giro Donne moving its position after the Tour de France Femme was incorporated into the calendar, but that will remain the case in 2023, with two weeks open between races.
However, the Tour de Scandinavia will take place three weeks after the Tour de France Femme instead of one week. The Simac Ladies Tour will also be one week later.
The provisional list of World Tour races does not include one race, the RideLondon Classic; after failing to provide the minimum required live TV coverage of each stage in 2022, the UCI has registered the 2023 race in the UCI Pro Series category.
However, the UCI may still recognize the race as a World Tour in 2023, but has stated that its registration is "subject to the provision of a commitment for live TV coverage of all stages." A decision will be made in September.
The RCS's planned women's Milan-San Remo is not included in the 2023 calendar.
