Peter Sagan misses Tour de Suisse due to positive COVID-19 test

Peter Sagan abandoned the Tour de Suisse before the final time trial in Vaduz after testing positive for COVID-19 on Saturday's final stage The three-time world champion also missed February 2021 and earlier this year due to COVID-19.

"Yesterday, I was in the Tour de Suisse.

"Yesterday Saturday, after the finish of @tds stage 7, I was tested for COVID-19 by the @TeamTotalEnrg doctor. 'Unfortunately it was positive. I have no symptoms and I feel fine, but I have to abandon the race. I appreciate the support and will report back."

It remains to be seen whether Sagan's coronavirus infection will affect his participation in the Tour de France.

Sagan's classic campaign was ruined by illness, but he appeared to be back on form when he won a sprint victory on stage 3 of the Tour de Suisse. The victory was his first with Total Energies since moving from Bora-Hansgrohe last winter.

The Tour de Suisse peloton suffered a coronavirus outbreak this week. Alexandre Vlasov (Bora-Hansgrohe) pulled out of the race while wearing the yellow jersey, and four teams were forced to withdraw from the group: the Alpecin Phoenix, Bahrain Victorious, UAE Team Emirates, and Jumbo Visma.
