Biniam Girmay, who suffered an unforeseen accident on the podium of the Giro d'Italia, has recovered from an eye injury and will return to racing this weekend.
The Eritrean, who suffered a hemorrhage in the anterior chamber of his left eye last month, will compete in the national championships this weekend.
He will compete in a time trial on Friday, June 24 and a road race on Sunday, June 26.
Biniam Girmay was injured while opening a celebratory bottle after becoming the first black African-American to win a Grand Tour stage victory on stage 10 of the Giro d'Italia.
The cork popped out and hit his left eye, causing an anterior chamber hemorrhage and forcing him to abandon the race.
A week after the accident, a re-examination revealed that Gilmey was fine with no permanent damage to his eye, but he had to rest for a total of about three weeks.
After winning in Ghent-Wevelgem in the spring, Gilmey will not make his Tour de France debut this year, but will instead focus on the world championships in Australia for the second half of the season.
After the national championships, he will return to Europe in July to race in the Tour de Pollogne and the One Day Classic.
"Thank you to everyone who has supported me and pushed me. I'm okay now. See you again," said Gil May after leaving the Giro.
"I was a little sad about the champagne, but when I got back to the hotel everyone was so happy. They were a little scared, but they seemed okay, so I really enjoyed it and I'm happy."
