Caleb Yuan will lead Lotto Soudal to a stage win in the Tour de France, while Philippe Gilbert will be making his 12th and final appearance.
Lotto-Soudal's Tour selection will be built around Yuan's sprint, and his lead-out train will include Reinart Janse van Rensburg, Frederic Frison, Florian Vermeersch, and Brent Van Moors.
Tim Wellens and Andreas Krohn, who were prevented from winning the controversial Baloise Belgian Tour over the weekend, complete the eight-player roster.
Lot Soudal is fighting to maintain his World Tour level in 2023 and is currently in the relegation zone. The 20-year-old neo-professional is not on the Tour roster.
"With these eight, we can play a role in almost every terrain of the Tour de France," Lotto-Soudal CEO John Lelangue said in a statement released by the team on Wednesday.
"In Caleb Yuan we have one of the fastest riders in the peloton. He is our best chance for a stage win and that is why we have surrounded him well with Reinard Janse van Rensburg, Frederik Frisson, Florian Vermeersch and Brent Van Moer."
Ewan's lead-out train in France was markedly different from the Giro d'Italia train led by Roger Kluge, RĂ¼diger Selig, and Michael Schwarzmann.
The Australian won five Giro d'Italia in 2022, but crashed during the sprint for the first maglia rosa on the first day of the Giro in Visegrad.
He then finished second in Scalea, but abandoned during the second week. The only race between the Giro and the Tour took place in Elfstedenronde Brugge, where he finished second behind Fabio Jacobsen (Quick Step-Alfa Vinyl).
Ewan completed a Tour hat trick in his debut in 2019 and added two more stages in 2020, but was forced to abandon last year's race after breaking his collarbone in a crash in a group sprint in Pontivy.
His selection for the Tour was a surprising turnaround for Reinerd Janse van Rensburg, who feared his professional career was over after the breakup of the Qhuebka NextHash team last winter. The South African had just signed with Lot Soudal in late April and was forced to miss the recent tour of Baloise Belgium due to illness.
Gilbert, who is riding his last season as a professional, will celebrate his 40th birthday during the Tour. He will be hoping to shine alongside Fermesch and Van Moors on the cobbles leading up to the fifth stage to Arenberg. Gilbert made his Tour debut in 2005 and won the opening stage in Mont des Alouements in 2011.
"Philippe Gilbert, Andreas Krohn, and Tim Wellens have proven to be in very good form in recent weeks. They will definitely be active on the difficult stages and will be part of the breakaway group."
