France's Groupama-FDJ has announced its squad for the Tour de France.
David Gaudou and Thibaut Pinot have been selected, with Gaudou expected to go for GC, while Pinot, who has been plagued by various injuries over the past few seasons and has come a long way, appears to be aiming for a stage win or the polka dot jersey.
The 25-year-old Gaudoux finished 11th in last year's race, his fourth Tour appearance. He recently finished ninth overall in the Criterium du Dauphiné.
Pinot, meanwhile, is returning to the Tour for the first time since 2020. He has a podium (2014) and three stage wins to his credit, but his chances of winning in 2019 were derailed by injury, and his opening day crash in 2020 triggered two seasons of back problems.
This year, the 32-year-old is on the road to recovery with stage wins at the Tour de Alps and Tour de Suisse.
In addition, the climbing ability of Australian rider Michael Stoller, who won two stages and the mountains jersey at the Vuelta a España last year, should not be overlooked. This year's Tour will be his debut and the team has indicated that he will enjoy a leadership position.
Time trial specialist Stephan Kühn was also selected. The Swiss rider had a strong showing at the recent Tour de Suisse, finishing fifth overall, and will be aiming for the yellow jersey in the first day's time trial in Copenhagen.
Valentin Maduas is one to watch this spring after finishing third in the Tour de Flanders.
The team selection will be rounded out by debutant Kevin Jenietz, Olivier Le Gac, making his third appearance, and Antoine Duchenne, making his first Tour appearance since 2016.
Groupama-FDJ has eight wins in 2022, plus two each for Gordou and Pinot, and sprinter Arnaud Demaret has four, including three stages at the Giro d'Italia.
The team has not won a stage at the Tour since Pinot won the Col du Tourmalet in 2019.
