Chris Froome will be racing in the Tour de France again this year as part of the four-time winner's Israeli Premier Tech Team.
In addition to wins at the Giro d'Italia and Vuelta a España, the Israeli Premier Tech Team will be aiming for a stage win at the Tour de France, and will travel to France with team leaders Michael Woods and Jacob Fuglsang.
This will be Froom's 10th participation in the race, which he won in 2013, 2015, 2016, and 2017; since mid-2019 he has been fighting back to full strength after a career-threatening crash in the Criterium du Dauphiné, most recently best result in three years, an 11th place in the Classique Alpes Maritimes.
"It's great to start my 10th Tour de France with Israel's Premier Tech," said the Italian. 'I've worked extra hard this year and I'm eager to give it my all. I can't wait to get going in Copenhagen."
Fuglsang, who joined the team this year from Astana, will start in his native Denmark and will be looking for a stage win in a race where he finished seventh in 2013.
The 37 year old has a one-two with Woods and IPT in the Classic Alpes-Maritimes and finished third overall in the Tour de Suisse.
"Starting the Tour de France in my home country is a once-in-a-lifetime experience for me. I can't wait to get started. I am confident that the Danish fans will make this year's Grand Depart an unforgettable one," Fuglsang said. [After last week's victory in the Classique Alpes-Maritimes and third overall in the Tour de Suisse, I feel ready to take on this Tour. I've worked hard to get to this point and I believe I'm where I should be right now. The Tour is always unpredictable, but I'm here to make my mark.
Woods, like Fuglsang, has a stage win at the Vuelta a España, but has yet to win the Tour. Last week he took a stage win at the Route d'Occitanie, his first stage win.
"I'm really looking forward to starting this year's Tour de France. After the Route d'Occitanie, I'm feeling more confident about racing. The first week will be very tough, stressful, and technical. My first goal is not to crash in this opening week.
"In the last two Tours I have come very close to winning a stage, but I always feel like I have been hampered by crashes and injuries. My goal this time is just to stay safe and get my legs ready for the last two weeks. There are a lot of stages out there that are suitable for me and I want to take advantage of as many as I can."
Froom, Fuglsang, and Woods will be joined by Daryl Impey, who won a breakaway stage in the Tour three years ago, and Simon Clark, a two-time stage winner in the Vuelta.
Canada's Hugo Uhl, Latvian Krist Neilands, and Israeli Omer Goldstein round out the eight Tour de France registered riders for Israel Premier Tech.
The team has won eight races in 2022, four of them in the last three weeks. They are currently fighting for WorldTour survival, fighting alongside several other teams in the UCI points race to finish in the top 18 in the standings by the end of the season.
