Taylor Wiles will end his season early by not participating in the USA Cycling Road National Championships due to his recovery from successful surgery for external iliac artery entrapment in the Netherlands on June 8.
Trek-Segafredo confirmed to Cycling News that Wiles will now focus on his recovery and work toward his 2023 goal.
"The surgery went well. Taylor has returned to the U.S. to recover. Taylor is not expected to compete in any races for the remainder of the season to focus on recovery and building his body for next year."
Wiles was diagnosed with left-sided external iliac artery internal fibrosis in April after experiencing what she calls "lack of power" and "overwhelming fatigue" over the past year.
She underwent surgery for external iliac artery endarticular fibrosis in the Netherlands on June 8 and spent the first two weeks after surgery recovering.
She will then return to the United States, where she will complete the rest of her recovery and finish the season early with her sights set on 2023.
"Unfortunately, I had to undergo surgery for external iliac artery endarteritis, which will put me out for the season. I am now two weeks post-op and getting better every day, but I won't be able to run for at least another month and still have to keep my heart rate below 100 for a while," Wiles wrote in an e-mail to Cycling News.
"I'm not in ideal shape, but I have to stay positive. I haven't been myself on the bike in years, so it was nice to know what was holding me back and I'm hoping to come back stronger."
