Intermarche Supports Christophe and Meintjes at the Tour de France

The Intermarché Wanty-Gobert Matériault team has announced its lineup for the 2022 Tour de France, supporting four-time stage winner Alexander Kristoff for stage wins and Louis Maintus as the team's overall favorite The team revealed that.

Christophe came to Intermarque Wantigover in 2022 as a reset after being left off the UAE Team Emirates roster for last year's Tour de France, winning the opening stage of the 2020 Tour de France and becoming the day leader. Christophe, wearing the yellow jersey, will be equipped with a strong lead-out train that includes Andrea Pasqualon, Adrien Petit, and compatriot Sven-Erik Bystrom.

High-profile attacker and Giro d'Italia stage winner Taco van der Hoorn was selected along with climber Corby Goossens. Both will be making their Tour de France debuts, and George Zimmerman will start his second Tour with a breakaway in mind.

According to a team press release, Meintjes will be aiming for a top-10 overall finish. The South African native won the Giro dell'Appennino and finished sixth overall at this month's Criterium du Dauphiné.

"We have chosen a well-balanced team with two riders aiming for a stage win and a good finish in the final standings," said team CEO Jean-François Broulard. [A group centered around Alexander Christophe, supported by Andrea Pasqualon and Adrien Petit in the sprints and northern stages. With riders like Zimmermann, Van der Horn, and Byström, we want to stay true to our aggressive temperament.

"Finally, in the high mountains, we can rely on Louis Meintjes, who had a good early season and finished sixth in the Criterium du Dauphiné. He will be supported by Kobe Goossens, a young Belgian rider who discovered the Tour de France.

The newest WorldTour team, Intermarche Wanty-Gaubert, will be competing in its fifth Tour de France as an organization. They have already had enough success this season to enter the 2023 WorldTour, but they are hoping that further victories by Maintus in the Tour de France and a good showing on GC will contribute to their ranking.

"Stage wins are our main goal and we have candidates in every terrain. Next time we will try to attack the mountains well and aim for our first top 10 finish in the Tour," said Burrato.

As expected, the team did not add Ghent-Wevelgem winner Biniam Girmay to its roster. The Eritrean champion will compete in the Tour de France. Also not selected were Baloise-Belgitour winner Quinten Hermans and new Estonian champion Rein Taaramae.
