Movistar has jointly announced its teams for the Tour de France and Giro d'Italia Donne, with Spaniard Enric Mas leading the Tour men's team and two-time Giro winner Annemiek van Vleuten leading the Italian women's team.
In addition to Van Vleuten, who won back-to-back Giro Donne in 2018 and 2019, Emma Norsgaard, Arlenis Sierra, Paula Patiño, Jeroen Erich, and Ode Biernik will lead the six-woman team.
Van Vleuten, 39, has won four races so far in 2022, including victories at Setmana Valenciana, Omloop Het Nieuwsblad, and a stunning solo victory at Liege-Bastogne-Liege. Sierra, who has been riding well early in the season, will be one of Movistar's key support riders as van Vleuten again aims for the overall title.
Cuban Sierra, who won two stages at last month's Vuelta Andalucía and then went on to win gold at the Pan American Championships, 22-year-old Norsgaard has been a force this season, winning Le Samyn, finishing third overall at the RideLondon Classique, and defending the Danish successfully defended his time trial title.
Meanwhile, in France, Mas will be taking his fourth Tour de France, looking for a podium finish after finishing fifth and sixth in the previous two editions.
The 27-year-old Spaniard has two podium finishes at the Vuelta a España, but has not had a strong start to the season, finishing ninth at the Iturria Basque and fourth at the Volta a la Comunitat Valenciana.
Mas competed in the Criterium du Dauphiné earlier this month, but crashed on the final stage and did not finish. Earlier this week Movistar announced that he had signed a contract extension through the end of the 2025 season.
Gorka Izagirre, a Spaniard like Dauphiné stage winner Carlos Verona, is expected to support Mas on the mountain side in France. The same goes for American Matteo Jorgenson, who has shown his climbing talent this season, finishing fourth in the Tour de la Provence and 13th in the Dauphiné.
Time triallist Nelson Oliveira and veteran Imanol Erviti were also selected, while Alberto Torres and Gregor Mühlberger round out the eight-man Tour selection.
The Giro d'Italia Donné will kick off with a 4.7-km prologue in Cagliari on Thursday, June 30. The Tour de France begins with a 13.7-km time trial in Copenhagen on Friday.
