Roglic believes he can beat Pogacar in the Tour de France

Primoš Roglic and Jonas Vingegaard are confident that the combined strength of the Jumbo-Visma team can beat Tadej Pogachar in the 2022 Tour de France.

Jumbo-Visma was one of the first teams to be questioned about their ambitions for the Tour de France after arriving in Copenhagen for the Grand Depart. In the final test on Wednesday morning, the team's director sportif, Merijn Zeeman, tested positive for COVID-19, while Roglič, Vingegaard, and Wout van Aert tested negative and appeared ready to race in Pogačar

"We all tested positive for COVID-19.

"We are a strong team if we all give our best and we have good individual qualities. If we work together as well as possible, I believe we can beat him," said Roglic.

Vingegaard agreed.

"Two [leaders] make a bigger difference than one," added Dane, who was named co-leader of Jumbo-Visma on equal terms with Roglic. [A lot of things can happen in the Tour de France, a lot of stress and crashes. A lot can happen for us and for everyone. We have to survive the first week.

"We want to go with two leaders and I believe we can challenge Pogachar at the end.

In the Criterium du Dauphiné, Vingegaard showed his strength in the final mountain stage, but Roglic was already the race leader. However, both men denied any rivalry at the Tour de France, insisting they were friends on and off the bike.

"We make each other stronger. Jonas is very strong and we are strong individually, so the whole team is strong," claimed Roglic. We get along super well."

Vingegaard revealed that during the last high-altitude training camp in Tignes, the two often played together.

"Primosch and I are good friends outside of bike racing, we spent two weeks together in Tignes and enjoy each other's company," the Danish rider said.

." Primosch and I often drank beer on the balcony and our families and my wife enjoyed our time together."

Jumbo Visma appears to be united as a team, but has several very different goals; Roglič and Vingegaard are aiming to win the yellow jersey, while Van Aert is free to go for stage wins and the green points jersey.

Jumbo Visma's roster has also been split, with Christophe Laporte, Nathan van Hooydonk, and Tiesj Benoot selected to help Van Aert. In the mountains, Steven Kruijswijk and Sepp Kuss will assist Roglič and Vingegaard.

Roglič suggested that the team may be overburdened with several very large goals.

"He is 100% dedicated to the team and we help each other. We have big goals for why we are here."
