Uran to lead EF Education-Easy Post at Tour de France

Following the strange new look announced on Tuesday for the Tour de France and Tour de France Femme, EF Education-Easypost today announced its entry for the Tour.

EF is the last team to announce its members for the Tour, which starts Friday, July 1 in Copenhagen. Team manager Jonathan Vaughters said Thursday that he is standing by to make sure all team members are COVID-19 negative before the announcement.

"Waiting for roster announcements is not trying to be cute," he wrote on Twitter. 'Just want to make sure everyone is covid-negative before announcing.'

As expected, Rigoberto Uran will lead the team. The Colombian veteran will be taking his 9th and 21st Grand Tour, and will be looking to add another top 10 finish to his previous three.

Uran has hardly improved in 2022, finishing 14th in Tirreno-Adriatico and 10th in Iturria-Basque. At the recent Tour de Suisse, he left the race with several teammates after testing positive for COVID-19.

"We have the best riders here. The team has prepared everything: new materials, new bikes. Everyone is focused on the Tour de France. We're all focused on the Tour de France," Uran said. The whole world is watching. The level is super high. Every stage is hard.

"The riders, the masseurs, the mechanics ...... Everyone is focused and nervous for 21 days, every second counts. It's very different to start in Denmark instead of France.

"It lasts a month, but we want to take it one day at a time. Firstly, to be lucky, secondly to be healthy. We will have a strategy, but we have to take it one day at a time. The most important thing is to sleep well."

EF is not relying solely on Uran for GC results, and Nielson Powles is also on the team.

Powless, a 25-year-old American, has been on a roll of late, finishing fourth overall in the Tour de Suisse and eighth overall in the spring Liege-Bastogne-Liege.

Portuguese climber Ruben Guerreiro, winner of the Mont Ventoux-Denivelle Challenge, returns to the Tour after finishing 18th in his debut last year The 27-year-old, who won the Giro d'Italia mountain competition two years ago, has a stage record He will be a valuable asset, not only for his stage results, but also for assisting in the GC fight.

One of the favorites in the opening time trial is Switzerland's Stefan Bissegger. The 23-year-old is the only man to beat time trial world champion Filippo Ganna in this year's UAE Tour.

Alberto Bettiol and Magnus Cort have a combined total of eight stage wins in Grand Tours. Bettiol has twice finished in the top five in Switzerland, while Cortot has been in contention for the Giro d'Italia several times.

"For me, the Tour de France is the biggest race of the year. The Tour de France brings together the best riders in the world and it's a big show."

"That's why I had some problems during the season with COVID and other things, but after the Tour de Suisse I feel more confident. The team is ambitious to go for GC with the stage racers and we will try to win some stages. I know this race well as I have done it three times already.

Debutant Owain Doull and Tour runner-up Jonas Luchu round out the eight-man selection.
